OCM 11g Preparation - Create the database

Creating the database is one of the most elementary tasks a DBA must do. For OCM exam, you must create the DB easily in all the ways imaginable.

Like Gavin wisely said, "It’s not about what you know – it’s about how fast you can do stuff as time is the essence in this exam. Working under pressure of time is the biggest obstacle I found that I had to cross.".

I can think on the following ways:

  1. Create database using dbca (the fastest and recommended if the exam does not put any restrictions)
  2. Create database using dbca with response file.
  3. Create database using dbca with parameters in the command line.
  4. Create database using the "CREATE DATABASE" statement.
  5. Create database using Enterprise Manager (Is it possible?? Checking...)

Create those databases in your Single Instance Oracle VM and also in your Oracle RAC VM, to be sure you are used to it.

    Hi RJ,
    All the best for your exam. I have one question : "In OCM exam , do they ask to install Oracle software? If yes will they fulfilled all the prerequisites spcially RPMs"

    1. Hi Prabhakar,
      They will probably ask for that. I'm not sure if they will give you the system with the RPMs installed, but if they don't you will have access to them and could do it by yourself.
      The Oracle Linux 5.4 installation CD has all the RPMs and also the oracle-validated available.

    hi guys, reading anothee ocm posts, is not necessary install software

    all software requeired is installed on the machines.

    Hello,

    I believe rpm installation may not be required, since it is not part of DBA activity.

    1. Hi Udayakumar, i would not believe in that. Maybe this is not part of a DBA activity, but what about an OCM DBA activity?

    Hi

    I would also add CREATING DATABASE using OMF, as it is simplier and quicker way. As long as you have OMF setup.

    for me the best option is used sqlplus command Create database ...

    But if you attach the hyperlink it will be more helpful. Also i would like to know during the Exam they will be providing the physical server or it will be VM.

    Do we need to learn Oracle VM as well? Appreciate your feedback in this regards.

      For some reason your message got lock in the spam folder of my blog, sorry replying many months later.
      Well, I can't tell you how anything that happens on the exam day, and it changes a lot over the time.. but if you needed to learn OVM this would be a pre-requisite on the exam!

    Do you have link for the download of VM for oracle 11g R2... At this point not much of the software are seen as shown by you in http://www.dbarj.com.br/en/2014/10/ocm-11g-preparation-download-exam-environment/...

    Any help appreciated.. I am interested in pursuing OCM 11g.. So asking for help.

    1. Oracle Support states that you can use the latest 11g versions of the software to build your study environment. "Prepare in a practice environment (practice environment does not need to be on the exact OS and database software versions used in the OCM exam)."
      For VM just take the latest stable version.
