OCM 11g Preparation - Download the Exam Environment

The exam environment keep changing over the time and I believe that Oracle will soon update the Linux and Database release to the latest.

As Oct/2014, the exam environment in official OCM website is the following:

Exam Environment

  • Oracle Linux Release 5.4 (32-bit)
  • Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 (32-bit)
  • Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)  (32-bit)

You can find the download links below. Note that for some of them, you will need Oracle Support access. Some isn't even available there and you will need to open a MOS ticket to download:

  • Oracle Linux Release 5.4 (32 bits) -> Go to https://edelivery.oracle.com/linux and filter until you find "Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 4 Media Pack for x86 (32 bit)". Download the FULL DVD zip, file name is Enterprise-R5-U4-Server-i386-dvd.iso / V17793-01.zip.
  • Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 (32-bit) -> Go to https://support.oracle.com/ and look for Patch 10404530. Download all the 7 files for Linus x86 (not x86_64). File name is p10404530_112030_LINUX_Xof7.zip. (1<= x <= 7)
  • Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0) (32-bit) -> Go to https://support.oracle.com/ and open a "Contact Us Service Request". Do not forget to say that is for Linux 32 bits Download all the 3 files. File name is GridControl_11.1.0.1.0_Linux_Xof3.zip / V23671-01_Xof3.zip. (1<= x <= 3)
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 (10.3.2) x86 -> Go to https://support.oracle.com/ and open a "Contact Us Service Request". Do not forget to say that is for Linux 32 bits. File name is wls1032_linux32.bin / V18592-01.zip.
  • 11.1.0.1.11 Grid Control Patch Set Update (PSU) - OMS Generic ->  Go to https://support.oracle.com/ and look for Patch 19281042. File name is p19281042_111010_Generic.zip.
  • Oracle Linux Grid Control Agent  (11.1.0.1.0) ->  Go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/agentsoft-090381.html. File name is Linux_Grid_Control_agent_download_11_1_0_1_0.zip.
  • 11.1.0.1.7 Grid Control Patch Set Update (PSU) - Unix Agent -> Go to https://support.oracle.com/ and look for Patch 9346282. File name is p9346282_111010_LINUX.zip.
  • Oracle Documentation -> Download the offline documentation for Database 11gR2 and EM 11.1 at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/documentation/index.html. Avoid the new style documentation, try to find the old ones as this exam is not recent. File names are E11857_01.zip and E11882_01.zip.
  • Mozilla 1.6 Browser -> Why Mozilla 1.6? Because this is the version of Mozilla that you must have proficient accordingly to official OCM website. Download the portable version and use it only to open the offline documentation. To avoid internet connection, manual configure some proxy like 1.1.1.1 that does not exist so you will know if you are not using the offline documentation anymore. You can download it at http://www-archive.mozilla.org/releases/.
  • Flash Plugin for Browser -> This is necessary to access some places of EM Grid Control and EM DB Control. Look for the flash-plugin i386 rpm and install it in your linux. File name I'm using is flash-plugin-11.2.202.429-release.i386.rpm.
  • Oracle ASM Lib -> This file is necessary to complete the install of oracleasm and create ASM Disks. Download at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/downloads/rhel5-084877.html. File name is: oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.i386.rpm.

That's it. My recommendation is to also download Virtualbox to emulate this scenario (I use the 4.3.12 version). Now you are ready to start your studies.

    Hi Rodrigo,

I download the EM document - E11857_01.zip, but it is not good enough for offline use. There are too many lost elements on the offline pages.

Do you have the same problem?

    1. Yes, there are a lot of links that redirect to http://download.oracle.com/docs/... or http://www.oracle.com/pls/topic/...
Most of them are in the Management tab. Don't use those links, only the one that are available on the doc.
You can also use the master index to find what you need. Open any valid page and click on "Index" link on the upper right.
      Regards,
      Rodrigo

    Hi Rodrigo,

I am doing practice on VMware Workstation ( provided by Red Hat) since started learning oracle. Should I use Oracle Virtual Box or O should continue with the same. Please confirm me which one will be good for OCM.

    Thanks
    Prabhakar

    1. Hi Prabhakar,

You can practice on VMWare but keep in mind that you will never face this software in your exam. Oracle has his own virtual emulation sw and if the exam is with virtual machines (most probably), would be good to avoid losing any second trying to figure out how to manage Virtual Box.

    Hello Rodrigo,
please do you have Weblogic and GC software? I am not able to get it from Oracle. I created SR on Oracle support, they ping me to Oracle University and Oracle University did not help me :(.

    1. Hi Jiri,

As I replied by email, create a "Contact Us" SR with the information I provided. Please let me know if you still didn't get it.

    Hi all
    I have a question:
Why not package oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.x86_64.rpm on exam enviroment?

    Thanks a lot

    Nhonvlq

    1. Hi Nhonvlq,

This rpm package that you mentioned is for 64 bits system, not 32. The ASM rpms needed are already in the Oracle Linux DVD iso.

      Regards,
      Rodrigo J

        Hi DBA RJ
Oh sorry, I mean that why not package oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.i386.rpm on exam enviroment? In two ways using ASM (ASMLIB or raw device) if chose raw device then not package oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.i386.rpm even if use ASMLIB must have that package.

        Regards,
        Nhonvlq

        1. Hi Nhonlq,
You DO need this package! The thing is that it's already present in Oracle Linux Release 5.4 (32 bits). So, no extra download is required. That's why I don't mentioned it in this article.
          Regards,
          Rodrigo

            http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/asmlib/index-101839.html
Can you show me what directory it on?

            Hi Nhonvlq,
Sorry, you were right. The oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.i386.rpm file is not in the media DVD. Only the oracleasm and oracleasm-support.
I will add in this topic to also download that RPM.

            Thanks,

    Hello Rodrigo,

Thank you for sharing it, we really appreciate !

    Let me ask you something,

    a) do we need to create the servers there or they will provide only the credentials to access each one ? Do they use Virtual Box ?
    b) they will provide the rpm to install flash or it is already installed ?
    c) Regarding the offline documentation, we will be abble to access it ? A few people say you can't search, but Mozilla has search capabilities... Can you clarify ?
    d) Why do we need to download Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 (10.3.2) x86 ? It will be necessary anywhere ?

    1. Hi Marcelo,
Sorry, but I cannot answer you ANY exam related question, like what they will provide you or not. This is what you need to get prepared for the exam, based on the topics and the environment they say in the official exam site.
      Regards,
      Rodrigo J

I understand , don't worry. But how about the Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 (10.3.2) x86, where did you see in the official documentation that we need it ?

        1. Hi Marcelo,
You need Weblogic 10.3.2 to install and deploy Oracle EM 11g Grid Control. It's a prereq.
          Regards,
          Rodrigo

what if I don't have MOS access ? Any generic education purpose request can be asked ?

            Hi Agathian,

If you do not have access to MOS, this questions was made before to Oracle Education and they replied that you could study downloading the 11g version that is available on Oracle website. However, it's always good to simulate the exam environment if possible.

    Hi DBA RJ
It have change, Softwares need for the exam are:
    Exam Environment
    Oracle Linux Release 5.2 (64-bit)
    Oracle Database 11g version 11.2.0 (64-bit)
Oracle Enterprise Management Grid Control 10g version 10.2.0.5 (64-bit)
    Link: https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:11GOCM&p_org_id=&lang=

    1. Hi Dvlk,

You are right, the official OCM website is now listing something different. That's why it's important to keep checking there.

It's strange because not they downgraded the EM version. They are asking a 10g EM in a 11g exam. Better study both versions of Grid to be prepared.

      Regards,
      Rodrigo Jorge

I hate it. Oracle just kept on changing the software requirements. back in 2015, its 32bit using 11.1.1.0 OEM, then they changed it to 64 bit using 10.3.2 OEM. Now its back to 32 bit.

    Hi DBA RJ,

I am planing to do the OCM exam next month. but today i saw exam environment has been changed. but i can't find Oracle Enterprise Management Grid Control 10g version 10.2.0.5 (64-bit) installation. could you please tell me to way to find this build.

    Thanks,
    Krish

    1. Hi Krish,

Yes, indeed Oracle changed the exam environment to a lower version. My advise is to prepare to both 10g and 11g grid version (as I don't know if this was a mistake). You can get the files opening a SR on MOS.
      Good luck!

If you select country in the country/region selection space (upper right corner) on the Oracle Database 11g Certified Master Exam webpage (
"https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:11GOCM&p_org_id=898938296&lang=ru"), you can notice that exam invironment is changing smoothly 🙂 :
    - from "Oracle Linux Release 5.4 (32-bit)" to "Oracle Linux Release 5.2 (64-bit)";
    - from "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 (32-bit)" to "Oracle Database 11g version 11.2.0 (64-bit)";
    - from " Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0) (32-bit)" to "Oracle Enterprise Management Grid Control 10g version 10.2.0.5 (64-bit)".

    Something is incorrect 🙂

    Hello Rodrigo,

I have created SR to oracle with request for documentation: E11857_01.zip and E11882_01.zip with old style, but oracle provided link to new one.
Do You know from where I can download propertly documentation ?

    Thanks
    Witek

    1. Hi Witek,

It's not easy to find them anymore. You will need to tell them the exactly documentation version and in old style on the SR. Anyway, as they made a lot of upgrades and downgrades in the exam, you cannot know what documentation version you will face. Be prepared for both.

    Hello RJ,

Thanks a lot for your posts and I'm very appreciated them.

I downloaded Firefox 1.6 from the link provided, however I cannot use it to open the index.htm file of E11882_01. Did you get the similar issue? Is it due to firefox or the version of the document?

    Thanks,
    Hieu

    1. Hi Hieu,

Yes, I had similar issues, this firefox is really old and it was freezing all the time during my training. Just get used to it, that's the version the official docs says, maybe you will have smtg better on your exam.

      Regards,

    Oracle Linux Release 5.2 (64-bit)
    Oracle Database 11g version 11.2.0 (64-bit)
Oracle Enterprise Management Grid Control 10g version 10.2.0.5 (64-bit)

Where as in your update above it says the below

    Exam Environment

Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 (32-bit)
Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0) (32-bit)

    Can you please clarify.

    TIA

    1. Hi Yusuf,

Yes, a time ago Oracle changed the SO and EM of the exam environment to a lower version. My advise is to prepare to both 10g and 11g grid version (as I don’t know if this was a mistake).

    Hello,

I am about to start preparing for this exam.
Based on what I read here I want to find the latest changes in matter of Exam Environment, but I am not able to find any reference to what are the versions of the products used in the Exam.
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:11GOCM

Any idea where I could find references regarding Exam environment?

    Thanks for this site !

    Gabriel

    1. Hi Gabriel,
They keep updating the OCM website and it seems they forgot to add the versions. I would recommend you to practice using latest 11g (11.2.0.4, it is almost the same but more stable than 11.2.0.3 and with a few new features) and the version of OS and GI that I mention in this page.
      Thanks,
      RJ
