OCM 11g Preparation - Prepare your Environment

As we have many situations to deal with in the topics, my recommendation is creating 6 VMs using Virtualbox:

  1. Oracle Single Instance
  2. Oracle Enterprise Manager
  3. Oracle RAC Node 1
  4. Oracle RAC Node 2
  5. Oracle DG RAC Node 1
  6. Oracle DG RAC Node 2

I won't show here how to create an VirtualBox and install Oracle Linux software, as you can find about 533,000 results in 0.34 seconds using Google. The tutorial that I used is a very good one explained by "masterschema" in his youtube page.

Try to create VM's with 2GBs RAM memory only. It's seems too little but is enough for the scenarios:

  • Memory utilization of Oracle Linux 5.4 running w/o Grid or Oracle softwares - Total 157 MBs.
  • Memory utilization of Oracle Linux 5.4 running w/ Grid but without any instance - Total 750 MBs.
  • Memory utilization of Oracle Linux 5.4 running w/ Grid and one 500 MBs memory_target instance - Total 1300 MBs.

So I still have more than 700 MBs free!

Unpack the portable Mozilla 1.6 zip and keep this browser always ready for your studies only:

Mozilla 1.6

To avoid internet connection on this browser (for security reasons as this is a so outdated version and also because you won't have on the exam day), define a proxy like 1.1.1.1 on port 80 to all HTTP requests.

Remember, the official Oracle Doc is the only material that you will have on the exam day, so being fast and getting as soon as possible to the item in the DOC is a necessity.

  1. Dear Rodrigo,

When I open documentation on mozilla , browser crashes and closes.. have not you had this problem?

    1. Hi Mariami,

Yes, I used to have this exactly same problem. This mozilla version is so old that it came with all those bugs. If I'm not wrong, my solution was to used a more recent version of the mozilla. So I would have the same "look n feel".

Appreciate your efforts writing this blog.

While setting up environment, does it necessary to apply any PSU or leave the GI, DB home on base versions 11.2..0.0 ?

    Kindly suggest

    1. There are some topics that request you to use opatch. So it is recommended to practice applying the PSUs.
