ORAdiff - Find the differences between two Oracle Database releases

We are happy to announce that ORAdiff is live!

ORAdiff is an Oracle tool that allows you to compare two Oracle Database releases and optionally incremental patch bundles. It reports differences in parameters, privileges, users and roles, reserved words, patch fixes, database homes, objects, and more. It can also be used to obtain an inventory of these items for a particular release!

We started developing this with database developers and support engineers in mind, but ORAdiff is meant for everybody who works with Oracle Database. Whether you are just curious about how many bug fixes will add by moving from 19.11.0 to 19.15.0, or whether you program tools in OCI, this tool may be very helpful to you, too.

Some of the most common questions that ORAdiff can help to answer:

  • When was a parameter introduced?
  • Which patch release changed a default value?
  • Was a bug fix delivered in a given Release Update?
  • Which privileges were removed from a default role in a given version?
  • Which columns were added in 19.13.0 to a specific CDB view?

Why we created ORAdiff?

We created the system because it helps us learn about changes in our release evolution. Yes, the official documentation is quite helpful! But, comparing documentation from two different versions can be a chore, and with ORAdiff you can now compare releases, or RUs, with just a few mouse clicks on objects or files or fixes or parameters. You can even generate a comprehensive report showing all the differences in the database dictionary between two releases or even release updates.

How frequently is the ORAdiff database of release information updated?

ORAdiff data is refreshed when a new Release Update is released (every quarter).

  1. ORAdiff is really great for each oracle dba to understand the differences between two different oracle release versions or different patch bundle on the same oracle base version, A big thaks for your effort and entire oracle upgrade team and database developers and support engineers!

By the way Oracle APEX is a powerful and simple developer tool.
