OCM 11g Preparation - Configure Recovery Manager

This topic is very generic and have a very similar name with the topic "Configure RMAN".

The best thing to study here is all the persistent RMAN configurations that you can set up and their values:

  • Default Device for Backups: Disk or SBT
  • Default Type for Backups: Backup Sets or Copies
  • Channels
  • Control File and Server Parameter File Autobackups
  • Backup Retention Policy
  • Backup Optimization
  • Archived Redo Log Deletion Policy
  • Snapshot Control File Location
  • etc

You must also know all the syntax, and the RMAN error mensage is a very good place to get it if you typo.

Also, try to understand very well the theory and practical differences of:

  • Backup Set
  • Backup Piece
  • Multiplexed Backup Set
  • Level of Multiplexing
  • Multisection Backup
  • etc

You must also need to know how to combine and the consequences of using:

  • MAXSETSIZE
  • MAXPIECESIZE
  • FILESPERSET
  • SECTION SIZE
  • MAXOPENFILES
  • etc

I've written an article about these differences is available here.
